Picture Sandstone is a natural sandstone, formed 180 to 220 million years ago by wind and water ad part of the geological formation "Shinarump." The colors and designs were induced by a mineral spring containing iron oxides. These pieces are Arizona Sierra which are found in Northern Arizona. The design patters are natural, its color is achieve by heat treating the stone. This causes the iron oxides found naturally in the stone to oxides, the richer the iron the deeper the color.
