Natural citrine is formed when quartz crystals are exposed to elevated temperatures deep within the Earth, typically over millions of years. This natural heating process alters trace amounts of iron within the quartz, producing the warm golden to amber coloration that defines citrine. Unlike most commercial citrine, which is artificially created by heating amethyst or smoky quartz, true citrine occurs in nature under specific geologic conditions, often near hydrothermal veins or in igneous rock environments. Its formation is rare, making natural citrine significantly more uncommon and valued among collectors.

This specimen is possibly heat treated.
