Plum blossom jasper, also commonly sold as plum blossom jade or Ru jade, is an expressive decorative stone featuring contrasting floral-like mineral patterns. Despite its common market names, geologists and rock enthusiasts agree that it is technically a black amygdaloidal andesite (a volcanic rock related to basalt) rather than true jasper or jade.  Formed when gas bubbles in cooling magma fill with secondary minerals like quartz, epidote, calcite, feldspar, and chlorite.
