Ethiopian water opals—primarily mined in the Welo province—are highly prized for their vibrant color play and unique "hydrophane" properties. They can act like sponges, absorbing significant amounts of water, which temporarily makes them transparent and alters their fiery brilliance until they dry out.

The opals must remain in water or they will dry out and break apart. Each opal comes with water beads and a jar.
