Moonstone, also known as Hecatolite (from goddess Hecate), is an aluminum, potassium, sodium, silicate (alkali), feldspar mineral. The body color can range from colorless to gray, brown, yellow, green, or pink. The clarity ranges from transparent to translucent.
Black Moonstone is actually closer related to Labradorite than to Moonstone. The name is a misnomer as most moonstones are used for gems and jewelry. Black Moonstone is a blackish gray with stripes and splotches of peach, salmon, orange and brown with a silvery chatoyance or flash.
Green Moonstone, also known as Garnierite, is a variety of serpentine with a high nickel content. It is a green-colored gemstone, and the color is due to the presence of nickel. While it's sometimes referred to as green moonstone, it's more closely related to Serpentine and Labradorite than traditional moonstone.
