Turgite is a natural, shimmering trade and historical name for an iridescent mixture of microcrystalline hematite and goethite. Scientists do not recognize turgite as a standalone mineral species. It is officially classified as a mixture of iron oxides (hematite and goethite). It features a striking, metallic rainbow sheen—flashing purple, gold, blue, and green—similar to an oil slick on water
