Labradorite is renowned for its mirage of colors and display of Labradorescence. Its flash of colors can contain blue, green, yellow, orange, red, and even purple. Unlike most stones, the color displayed from Labradorite does not come from light reflected from the surface of this mineral. Instead, the spectrum of colors that you are seeing is caused by light reflecting off of a twinning surface within the stone. The difference in colors depends on the type of twinning surface that the light is refracting off of.
Moonstone is a type of feldspar that comes in several varieties. All moonstone varieties show adularescence, which creates a soft, flowing sheen that moves across the stone's surface. This effect results from light interference caused by alternating internal layers of albite and orthoclase feldspar.
